Why should you buy recycled?

You “close the loop” when you buy items or packaging made from recycled materials.  They have now come full circle: from bag or bin to a manufacturer, to the store shelf, and back to your home.  And after using the item, you can start the loop again by saving it for our local recycling program.

When you buy recycled, markets are created and a use is assured for recyclables being collected in our community and in thousands of others.  Manufacturers will respond by continuing to use recyclables in their products.

1. Commit to “Buy Recycled” at home and encourage the use of recycled-content products at your office.

2.Organize a display of recycled-content products at your church, office, school, or retail shopping center.

3.Ask local retailers to stock more products made from recycled materials.

4.Look for “safe bets” that always have recycled content: steel, aluminum, glass, molded pulp containers.

5.Purchase remanufactured products and equipment such as toner cartridges, office furniture, auto parts, re-fined oil and retreaded tires.

6.Organize a tour of a local facility that manufactures recycled-content products.

7.Purchase products you know can be recycled in your community.

8.If one of your favorite products does not have recycled content, call the manufacturer and ask them to change it.

9.Read product labels and look for recycled content, especially post-consumer.

10.Act by buying a recycled product today!

If you’re not buying recycled products, you’re not recycling.

BUY RECYCLED!
