MANY THANKS to the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality’s Litter Reduction and Recycling Grant Program for awarding operational funds of $18,000 to Keep Northeast Nebraska Beautiful for 2006. 
The grant program provides funds annually to Nebraska projects in three areas: public education, cleanup and recycling.

Present: Dick Leitschuck, , Nanci Walsh, Jackie Hartnett, Charlene Jensen, Sally Reinert, Anthony Gill, and Kristi Quinn, Keep Northeast Nebraska Beautiful coordinator

President Dick Leitschuck called the meeting to order at 12:08 p.m.

Minutes/agenda

Hartnett moved the agenda for Hartnett moved the Nov. 18, 2008 agenda be approved. Reinert seconded the motion.  The motion passed unanimously.

Reinert moved the minutes for Sept. 16, 2008 be approved as amended. Walsh seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

Treasurer’s report

Walsh reported there was $957.86 in checking, the recycling account has $457.04 and $4,210.61 in a certificate of deposit.

SIMPCO submitted the grant activity (attached to minutes).

Reinert moved the treasure’s report be approved. Hartnett seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

Committee reports

Quinn suggested the board consider submitting an EPA grant for the “Outdoor Classroom” project. Hartnett made a motion instructing Quinn to prepare the proposal with contingencies on the dollars committed to the match. Reinert seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

Old business

Litter Assessment results were distributed and discussed. The board agreed some additions to the areas assessed should be made to take in considerations the growth of South Sioux City and Ponca.

Jenny Conrad was proposed as a recipient of the “Recycler of the Year” award. Quinn said she would contact Ponca as to Conrad’s availability.

New business

Reinert made a motion to send letters concerning junk vehicles and junk vehicles businesses be sent to all counties and municipalities in the membership area. Gill seconded the motion. The motion passed with Hartnett abstained due to her position on the Dakota County Planning and Zoning Board.

Jensen made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 1:25 p.m. Hartnett seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
