Keep Northeast Nebraska Beautiful’s Poem Contest

KNNB sponsored a poem contest during the months of March and April.  Received 56 entries from four schools.  T-shirts and cash prizes were awarded in May.  Here are the winning entries.

3rd Grade

1st Place - Logan Olson, Stuart Public School, Stuart

Teacher - Mrs. Taylor

When I see litter

it makes me mad.

It makes our Earth look bad.

When I see a field full of litter

it makes me bitter.

So please put your trash in a can

that’s a very good plan!

2nd Place - Laura Ohri, West Boyd Unified, Butte

Teacher - Mrs. Lee Reiser

KEEP MIDWEST NE CLEAN

Keep the lakes and creeks clean

then beauty is what is seen,

working together - don’t pollute -

citizens are proud

like soldiers who salute.

By doing our share

we show we care,

Pick up trash and rake your lawns,

the grass will be greener,

and the children will play till dawn.

Oh, keep NE super clean,

the cleanest in the whole Midwest,

we want our state to be

the very best.

3rd Place - Jon Reiser, West Boyd Unified, Butte

Teacher - Mrs. Lee Reiser

NEBRASKA IS FREE

The streets are free and beautiful,

Nebraska’s people team up

helping the trash to not be.

Ditches are green

and trash can be seen,

People work and care

helping one by one or pairs.

Parks kept up in the towns

trash is put in trash cans,

Children find parks fun to play in

Seeing Nebraska trash free is the plan.

4th Grade

1st Place - Samantha Sattler, Stuart Public School, Stuart

Teacher – Mrs. Taylor

Take trash bags and get a friend,

pick up trash until the end,

Recycle all that litter.

Don’t be a critter,

Get it started up at school

Everyone will Thank-you,

now that is cool.

2nd Place - Jessica Ochoa, Harney Elementary, South Sioux City

Teacher - Mrs. Carson

KEEP NEBRASKA CLEAN

Nebraska is not a place to litter.

Our state is not a garbage can.

So keep the trash off our great land.

Clean rivers, trees, and land as far as I can see.

Keep Nebraska clean.

OUR NEBRASKA

We need to work on keeping our Nebraska clean.

It’s a very simple plan all we do is try to keep our Nebraska clean for as long as we can.

All trash we find we pick up and recycle.

With air that’s clean and fresh people can get sick from breathing in the dirty and disgusting air.

Pick up all the trash you can to help our Nebraska stay as clean as possible.

2nd Place – Megan A. Riha, Stuart Public School, Stuart

Teacher - Mrs. Paxton

BEAUTIFUL NEBRASKA

Nebraska is a beautiful state and is agriculturally active.

It’s not a trash can for your selfish desires.

Keep Nebraska Beautiful, and clean, Keep Nebraska safe for children,

And keep Nebraska away from turning into a dump,

Finally keep Nebraska a beautiful state!

3rd Place – Kyle Jackman, Stuart Public School, Stuart

Teacher - Mrs. Paxton

KEEP NEBRASKA BEAUTIFUL

KEEP THE EARTH CLEAN!

Keep the world clean by not littering.

And start to help clean up the earth.

Help people enjoy the earth

like every little girl and boy.
