Requirements for a MARRIAGE LICENSE
issued by
Dakota County, Nebraska
- Both applicants must be at least 17 years of age. You cannot marry in
Nebraska if you are under 17 years of age.
- Parental consent is required for any applicant who is 17 or 18
years of age. The parental consent
forms are available at the County Clerk's
office.
- One form of identification is required- i.e. a
certified copy of applicants Birth Certificate, the original certificate, or a
Nebraska Drivers License. Instrument will be
returned with Marriage License
IF BIRTH CERTIFICATE IS IN A LANGUAGE OTHER THAN ENGLISH, A TRANSLATED
CERTIFICATE IS REQUIRED
- Must provide birthplace of bride and groom.
- Must provide full names and birthplaces of both parents and mother's
maiden name.
- Social security numbers of both Bride and Groom.
- If either the Bride or Groom had a previous marriage, the date of
dissolution, divorce decree or death, must be provided.
- Licenses are good for one year from date of issuance. Therefore,
the couple has to be married within one year. If the couple is not married
within that period they must apply for another license.
- A couple may apply for a marriage license in any county in Nebraska and
may be married in any other Nebraska county. They cannot marry in another
state.
Special Note: No Blood Test is required in Nebraska
To receive a certified copy of a Marriage License previously issued in Dakota
County, you must complete an Application for Certified
Copy of Marriage Certificate and send the completed application with five
dollars ($5.00 check or money order) to the County Clerk’s Office.
Fees: Marriage License $15.00
